GROW YOUR FUTURE. At Shell Canada we face some of the most interesting and challenging engineering in the world! Currently we have a Well Surveillance Technologist opportunity available to support our growth initiatives with our Peace River Complex.
The successful candidate will be located at the Peace River Complex office, 55 km outside of the town of Peace River, Alberta. Primarily office based this position will accountable for the implementation and ongoing management of operations surveillance practices for the thermal production field and will include periodic trips to production wells and pads as well as periodic trips to Calgary for integrated Surveillance activities. Transportation is provided from the town to and from the complex.

Accountable for the implementation and ongoing management of short term well surveillance practices for the cold primary production areas near the Peace River Complex.

There are currently some 180 wells producing some 22,200 barrels of oil per day (bopd) in primary Cold Production, with new wells being actively added. The individual would work closely with operations staff, focusing on short term surveillance activities that maximize the production and minimize the operating cost for these wells.

This individual would also help identify medium and longer-term surveillance issues and communicate these to the Calgary office based staff for their attention.

Specific Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Responsible for developing, implementing, and tracking short term surveillance performance measures for heavy oil primary production wells (cold producers).
Responsible for interpretation of daily well surveillance data and to identify Operational activities to enhance production. This includes:
Investigate changes in day-to-day well parameters that are outside the expected range of conditions (i.e. anomalies).
Daily oil, water, and sand production monitoring.
Artificial lift performance monitoring and optimization.
Maintain and analyze all well and pump performance data.
Assist Operations with troubleshooting problems with operating equipment.
Responsible to recommend improvement opportunities or projects to enhance field production, including economic justification. This includes:
Prioritizing both field based and office based well improvement work & projects for the field operations staff to execute.
Ensuring that project look-backs occur.
Providing leadership for operations short-term surveillance activities, through structured communication processes with the field and office..
Prioritize well tests for operations to execute, assist in validating the test results, and validate the field pro-ration of the fluids.
Assist the Calgary based surveillance staff in providing accurate production forecasts and budget costs.
Act as the primary liaison between the Calgary based teams and Operations on well surveillance matters. Participate in weekly well and field optimization meeting.
The key field focal point for well integrity issues.
Qualifications
Critical Skills & Knowledge:
Technology diploma as a minimum, with 10 + years experience

Extensive experience with Artificial Lift, especially PCP pumps
Extensive experience with Heavy Oil Well Design and Operations
Strong analytical ability
Innovative
A strong understanding of well completions, drilling, and reservoir engineering
Experience with horizontal wells
Basic cash flow and economics

Excellent communication skills, able to influence individuals and teams
Project leadership
Makes independent interpretations from data obtained from surveillance activities and develops conclusions / action plans to address production opportunities.
Able to work independently under general supervision of Calgary based Well Surveillance Team Leader.
Able to coordinate well activities between Operations, Completions, Venture teams, Well Surveillance teams
