We manage the infrastructure for all of the Advertiser and Publisher Group's
revenue-generating services. We are responsible for the volume and the
quality of all Search and Advertising applications related to
revenue-generating services, their operations, and growth. This includes
global operations and production facilities in the US, Europe and Asia. Our
primary goals are to support the growth of the company's revenue and product
portfolio while minimizing operating costs and maintaining consistent
service levels.
Within Production Engineering, the System Administration team is responsible
for managing the hardware, operating systems and core services on tens of
thousands of systems in the Yahoo! production environment. The ideal
candidate will have 5+ years of experience in a Unix (Linux, FreeBSD and
Solaris) environment. The position requires an individual with the ability
to self-guide through projects, and to provide technical guidance and
support as a part of the Production Engineering team.

Responsibilities:
. Remote administration and deployment of servers
. Initial and on-going system configuration and security analysis
. Performance monitoring and analysis.
. Produce documentation related to deployment, management and administrative
processes.
. Participate in an on-call support rotation.
Minimum Qualifications:
. 5+ years maintaining and supporting Linux (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and
4)
. Experience maintaining and supporting FreeBSD (FreeBSD 4.x and 6.x)
. Experience maintaining and supporting Solaris (Solaris 8 and 9)
. Experience working with centralized management tools managing thousands of
systems
. Performance tuning
. PXE/Kickstart, JumpStart
. Perl and shell scripting
. Experience working remotely with systems
. Experience configuring and maintaining secure systems
. Experience working with CVS
. Knowledge of staging and testing new products
. Experience creating and maintaining operational documentation
. IP networking knowledge
. x86 and SPARC hardware configuration
. RAID setup and management
Preferred Skills:
. Oracle RAC
. BIND
. Postfix
. NTP
